35mm Cameras
- Minolta SRT201
- My main camera. Needs to be cleaned and probably needs new light seals.
- Pentax IQZoom835
- Nice little point-and-shoot
- Ricoh KR-30SP
- Has an issue where the mirror catches on the back of the lens. I can get it to go back with a bit of the old percussive maintenance. One day I'll visit a city with a camera repair shop and get it fixed.
Misc Film Cameras
- Kodak Brownie Hawkeye
- I'm not making a 120 film category for this since it technically is designed to take 620 Kodak film, though it can take 120 with a bit of fanagling.
- Kodak Instamatic X-35
- Could use some cleaning. This one takes 126 film which is no longer in production. You can shoot 35mm in it by loading the film into a 126 cartridge. I'd like to try that sometime.
- Polaroid OneStep Close Up
- Well-known instant camera. I haven't shot this one since I was a kid.
Digital Cameras
- Canon EOS Rebel T2i
- Got this one to scan in my film negatives. I might get some more lenses for it and do some digital photography.
Lenses
- Minolta Rokkor-X 45mm f/2
- The kit lens that came with the SRT201.
- Tokina AT-X 28-85mm f/3.5-4.5
- Got this one because I wanted a little more versatility. Needs to be checked out at a shop; it's got a click in the zoom ring.
- Quantaray AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Tele-Macro (1:2)
- Got this for film scanning. In retrospect it wasn't the best choice. I'd like to get a true 1:1 macro lens with a shorter focal length. Those are pretty dang expensive, though.
Film Processing
I've got the typical film developing equipment: Patterson tank, changing bag, etc. I'm also using a sous vide machine to keep the temperature right for color film processing.
For my film scanning setup, I've got a soft light panel with relatively high color correctness. I've also 3D printed a film holder to keep the film flat without damaging it. I've got a basic tripod and a remote shutter release to keep things steady. I'd like to get a copy stand or enlarging stand, but I'd also have to get a real macro lens with a much shorter focal length than the Quantaray.

Computers
Laptops
- ThinkPad T420s
- Intel i7, 500GB SSD, 16GB RAM. Running Arix GNU/Linux. My main computer.
- ThinkPad x220T + Mini Dock
- Intel i7, No hard drive, 8GB RAM. This is one is out of service right now due to a broken display.
- ThinkPad x60 + Ultrabase
- With a 120GB SSD, 3GB RAM, and Librebooted. Currently running Devuan GNU/Linux. I want to flash coreboot and install OpenBSD on it.
- Acer Aspire One 721
- Running Artix GNU/Linux. Not a laptop I'd recommend, but I got it for free.
Desktop
My PC was originally built in 2011. I've replaced some parts since then, usually due to a part failing. This is my current configuration. I haven't used it in a while, but I am planning on upgrading the storage and turning it into a home server.

Software
General Preferences
I almost exclusively use free software. I like command line or otherwise simple software.
- Operating System
- I use Artix GNU/Linux. It is a fork of Arch Linux that does not use SystemD. I have used a number of Linux distributions in my time, but I think Artix has the best combination of minimalism, software availability (AUR), ease of use, and documentation of any distro I've used. (Operating systems I've used in the past include but are not limited to: Windows[98/XP/Vista/7/10], Ubuntu and derivatives, Debian, Arch, Void, Gentoo)
- Terminal
- I use st (simple terminal), made by suckless.org. Currently I am running Luke Smith's build, but in the future, I plan on configuring my own build to better suit my needs.
- Shell
- Bash, the ubiquitous. That is the primary reason I use it. It's default, it's everywhere, and it is very well documented.
- Window Manager/Desktop Environment
- I use dwm, also by suckless. It's simple; it's lightweight. What more could I ask for? I've only patched it with noborder and pertag; I've found that's all I really need.
- I do not use any sort of desktop environment. They all come with a suite of programs I simply never use.
- Text Editor
- Vim (I actually use Neovim) is the only option. Emacs is so bloated, I don't even want to talk about it. If there were a way to get syntax highlighting in ed, I would learn that.
- Web Browser
- LibreWolf, a fork of Firefox. Privacy-respecting, adblock respecting, and using it takes away market share from the chrome menace.
- Video Player
- I use mpv like everyone else. If you're not using mpv, you are streets behind.
- Music Player/Library/Tag Editor
- I used to use mpd and ncmpcpp, but nowadays I find myself just using mpv for playing music.
- Bittorrent Client
- I use qBittorrent. It doesn't really fit in with my general preferences, but it's got a built-in search engine. I may switch to a command line client in the future.
- PDF Viewer
- Zathura. It's simple.
- Image Viewer
- I use sxiv. It does what I need it to do, and it has a thumbnail view.
- Image Manipulation
- I use GIMP. I've been using it for years, so I know it pretty well. It's great for making memes.
- I use ImageMagick for batch/scipted image manipulation.
- I use Darktable for editing raw images and converting negatives.
- CAD
- I know how to use AutoDesk's AutoCAD and Inventor, when I'm designing something at home for printing, I use OpenSCAD. I've tried using FreeCAD in the past, but I find it too buggy.
- 3D Slicing
- I used to use Cura, but it doesn't work on my system anymore for whatever reason. Now I'm using Prusa Slicer. It's not as nice as Cura, but it works well enough.
Where To Find Good Software
The program of your dreams is probably listed below:
- The suckless website's list of programs that "rock" – Generally minimalist programs
- A more comprehensive (and gradient) list of minimalist software
- The FSF's Free Software Directory – Emphasis on libre software (although most software in the links above will have free licenses as well)
- Install Gentoo wiki recommendations – A good mix of programs for novices and advanced users
